Assam Nurses' Midwives' & Health Visitors' Council
The Assam Nurses' Midwives' & Health Visitors' Council (ANMC) is a statutory body constituted under the Assam Nurses, Midwives and Health Visitors' Registration Act, 1944(Assam Act XIV of 1944), under the Government of Assam, Department of Health & Family Welfare.
The council is the apex regulatory body for nursing education and practice in Assam, responsible for setting standards, maintaining registers of qualified nursing professionals, recognizing nursing institutions, and conducting state-level examinations.
Functions of the Council
Registration & Licensing
Maintains the official register of all qualified nurses, midwives, ANMs, and Health Visitors in Assam.
Examination Authority
Conducts GNM, ANM, LHV, and DPN examinations for candidates across the state.
Institution Recognition
Recognizes nursing institutions and monitors compliance with INC standards and curriculum.
Standards & Discipline
Sets professional standards for nursing practice and handles disciplinary matters.
Legal Basis
The council operates under the Assam Nurses, Midwives and Health Visitors' Registration Act, 1944 and the Indian Nursing Council Act, 1947. The council aligns its standards with those of the Indian Nursing Council (INC), the national apex body for nursing education in India.
